About
Hi! I'm Dr. Jake Herndon. I'm a mathematician and tutor from Chicago, Illinois.
I received my PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2019, and in early 2020 I established the Chicago Center for Mathematics as a venue for my ongoing mathematical projects. During the pandemic I moved all of my projects online and began operating under the name Herndon Math Services.
My research interests include geometric group theory and descriptive set theory. More specifically, my thesis was on the large-scale geometry of certain kinds of topological groups. If that sounds interesting to you, please feel free to look through a PDF copy of my thesis here.
Sometimes I post math videos on my YouTube channel. I also do a little volunteer work with the Prison Mathematics Project, which provides math mentorship for people who are incarcerated.
